Marvel Comics, founded in 1939 as Timely Comics, is a division of Marvel Entertainment and--along with DC Comics--is one of the two largest publishers of comics books in the United States. Its primary focus is superhero comics (Spider-Man, The X-Men, et al.), but it also occasionally publishes books that may appeal to a wider audience.
