Gerard Way is best known as the frontman for the band My Chemical Romance, but in 2007 he also wrote a comic book called The Umbrella Academy. Way is an amateur artist as well, and created the accompanying artwork for My Chemical Romance's second album, Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge, but he did not create any of the artwork for The Umbrella Academy. Born in Newark, New Jersey, Way received a BFA from the School of Visual Arts in 1999. In 2001 he cofounded My Chemical Romance with drummer Matt Pelissier shortly after the September 11 attacks.
